After a thrilling second half at the Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium, FC Motown has walked away with a 3-2 victory over the storied New York Cosmos and the Northeast Region Title. With the victory, FC Motown will now have homefield advantage for the rest of their playoff run. Motown awaits to see who it will face in the NPSL National Semifinals Saturday night.
After a scoreless first half, FC Motown finally broke the ice. It was Walter Calderon beating the Cosmos keeper with a shot that found the bottom corner to give Motown a 1-0 lead. From there, Motown would continue to press and it was Christopher Katona who would next find the back of the net for Motown, to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. Moments later a penalty was awarded to Motown inside the box, and it was Duka who drove home the penalty to give Motown a 3-0 lead.
The Cosmos would not go quiet into the night, storming back ferociously in the final moments to cut the Motown lead to one. On the final play of the night, the Motown keeper, Kabo, was able to make a diving save off a Cosmos set piece to seal the deal. Kabo was crucial for Motown’s success, making important stops at critical times.
While Motown awaits to see who it will play next, one thing is for certain. They will have home field advantage for the rest of their run in the NPSL National Semifinals. No matter who their opponent is next week, the objective will remain the same as it has been the whole playoffs. Survive and Advance.
